High Performance Teams

I am often asked what YouNique Consulting does and when I reply that we work in getting the best out of individuals for high performance that is always followed up with a “so what does that mean?”

Simply put, a high-performance team can be defined as a group of people with specific roles and complementary talents and skills, aligned with and committed to a common purpose, who consistently show high levels of collaboration and innovation that produce superior results. The high-performance team is regarded as tight-knit, focused on their goal and nothing else.

The crux here is identifying those complimentary talents and skills and aligning them accordingly. If you took the skills of an accountant, a Formula One racing technician and a Sous Chef and asked them to build you a house, you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to know the outcome!

As individuals, we value pretty much everything we see as a concept and we value “these concepts” using the dimensions Empathy, Practical Thinking and Systems Judgment.

For example, if you put these dimensions in a room and deliver a piece of flat pack furniture (a table) and ask them to build it.

Systems Judgment would be the person to open the box, read the instruction manual cover to cover (several times), and assess all of the components, fixtures and fittings, what tools they would need and read the instruction manual once more before attempting to start building.

Practical Thinking would rip open the box (not even see the instruction manual) and start building immediately only to find that several pieces down the line will be incorrectly fitted and taken apart as necessary, it will very much be a work in progress until the structure is complete. So how would that process work on a tight deadline?

Empathy will be looking at the individuality of the table, more about the colour match with the walls, the flooring, where it would it be best positioned etc

Now think of these 3 dimensions as 3 of your employees working on the same team and on the same project – how will that project work out? (Re-enter the rocket scientist!)

Alternatively, if you identified your Systems Judgment, Practical Thinkers and Empathetic employees and aligned them on the relevant projects, how differently would your project be accomplished?

Using the above information along with dedicated leadership, amazingly superior things can be achieved and your team performing at their highest levels.

We simply say, why guess when you can know!
